Until a few months ago we were all merrily washing our hands several times a day without giving the matter a second thought.

However, since the advent of the COVID19 pandemic, we have been inundated with well-meaning advice about our hand washing routine. If it’s not the Government instructing us all to wash our hands ‘regularly’, it’s educational posters with a step by step guide to the ‘correct’ way to wash hands. We’ve been told about songs to sing whilst washing our hands to ensure we wash them for a sufficient period of time and there’s even a page on the NHS website dedicated to how to wash your hands https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-body/best-way-to-wash-your-hands/.

Hopefully the more sensible amongst us are heeding all this advice, as a regular and thorough hand washing routine is the easiest way to protect yourself and others from a range of illnesses and infections, not just COVID19.

Indeed, as lockdown measures start to relax, and day to day life slowly moves towards our ‘new normal’, it is more important than ever that we are vigilant with our hand washing.

But what if all this hand washing is leaving you with dry, sore, cracked skin?

The obvious and immediate solution would be to invest in a good quality, intensely moisturising hand cream.

Indeed, we have seen a sharp increase in sales of our range of handmade, 100% natural hand creams.

Made with cocoa butter, shea butter and coconut oil, the creams melt easily into your skin to leave hands soft and moisturised. Better still our hand creams are concentrated, so a little goes a long way.

But what if the answer lies, not in treating the problem, but preventing it happening in the first place?

Investing in a good quality soap, free form harsh chemicals, made with naturally nourishing and hydrating ingredient (olive oil, coconut oil, vitamin E) really can prevent your hands from drying out, no matter how many times a day you wash them.

We have had numerous success stories at Soak Southwell, with our range of handmade, 100% natural, soap bars.

From health professionals, suffering with dry and chapped skin, to school children with sore and even bleeding hands caused by the harsh chemicals in the liquid soap provided in schools, to customers with psoriasis and other dermatological skin conditions, we’ve had so many wins.

Just a few days of using one of our bars of natural soaps can genuinely bring relief to sore hands and aid the healing process.

So before rushing out to buy an expensive hand cream, just stop for a minute and consider if your money would be better spent preventing rather than curing.
